The living is easy

Friday, January 29th, 2010

It was all lovely and summery this afternoon. Sheets snapping on the line weather. So we went out for hours and hours and variously basked, baked and savoured.

We wandered round bits of the city we’ve never seen before, saw Polish men in shell suits, found Mrs Pettigrew’s dream house, and stalked a woman with a pushchair to see where she was going.

We ended up in Castle Park until I got sick of all the students milling about. I’d forgotten how much I loathe them.

It’s been a jolly fine day.

My word!

Life has been very staid recently. Aside from a brief visit from Razzle Dazzle and Al for curry and reality TV, routine has got the better of me.

I emerged briefly from the fugue today however. I’m generally terrible at gauging what clothes will fit D; I always assume that things will be much too huge for her. It derives from the fact that she’s my tiny little baby. Today, however, I decided that it was high time she got some use out of some of her pretty big-girl’s clothes, rather than letting her lounge around in a sleep suit all day. And whumph! Stick a t-shirt and trousers on her and suddenly there’s this great moose of a girl staring up at me from the changing mat. I’m really not sure where she came from.

They grow up so fast. *sniff!*

Chillin

The baby’s in bed, the husband’s out. I’ve got the house to myself.

So I’m sat in front of the fire eating jam doughnuts and listening to Billie Holliday.

Yeah.

The joy.

We’ve had a marvellous day today. From 8am until 10am we cried. Then we slept for half an hour. Then we cried until 12pm. Then we had another nap for the length of time it took for mummy to heat up some soup and sit down ready to eat it. Then we woke up and cried until mummy stuffed us in the pram and we went out for a couple of hours. Then we got home and cried until we were sick. Everywhere. Then we had tea and mummy cleaned up. Then we cried until we fell asleep.  But after that we weren’t too bad.

And then daddy came home and complained that she was being grumbly with him.

I’m having a Baileys tonight.
