Domestic

Peter has been extremely productive this month and I’ve helped a little bit here and there. Since Bungay, and in between sleeping and eating n’that, the kitchen walls have been sealed and painted four times. The floor has been leveled, tiled, grouted and fawned over. Skirting boards have been added and varnished, and now our units are starting to go in. It’s all terribly exciting.

We now have hot and cold running water, a new shiny sink to do the dishes in, an expanse of worktop, cupboards galore and a cutlery drawer. And with a little help from Matt we’ve even moved the fridge back into the kitchen.

It was very confusing this morning though when I stumbled, bleary eyed, into the conservatory in an attempt to make my sandwiches and couldn’t find a knife. Or a lunchbox. Or the fridge. Living like a proper person again is going to take some getting used to. Putting food into cupboards is going to be a big step forward.

Of course the culmination of our major works will have to be a slurging trip to Ikea for Pretty Things. It’s really the only way.
